Apple iOS Human Interface Guidelines vs. Google Material 3
Designing mobile app icons requires navigating two different mathematical paradigms:
- Apple iOS Superellipse: Apple masks all app icons into a superellipse squircle curve (n β 4.5) with corner radius ratios that change dynamically according to screen density. Our generator plots this continuous curvature directly inside the SVG path.
- Android Material Adaptive Icons: Android uses a two-layer system: a 108Γ108 dp background layer and a 108Γ108 dp foreground icon glyph, with a 72 dp safe zone mask. This allows OEMs to apply custom circular, rounded square, or teardrop shapes without clipping key artwork.
